Cynthia's Challenge Friday, March 13 to Saturday March 14, 2020 Canceled

The health and safety of you, your family and our customers and guests is our most important priority. It is for this reason that given the continued actions being taken to stem the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), we believe it is no longer appropriate for King Pine Ski Area to hold the Cynthia’s Challenge, 24 Hour Ski-A-Thon in an environment when the global priority is to contain and avoid further spread of the Coronavirus.

With the actions that our government, businesses, organizations, universities and schools are taking and the prospect of transmission and health implications and other consequences that could extend beyond the event itself, it has become clear that to hold the event, we could actually exacerbate the problem. It is our responsibility to take these matters seriously and act appropriately.

It is with all that in mind that we have decided to cancel this Friday and Saturday’s Cynthia’s Challenge, 24 Hour Ski-A-Thon March 13-14, 2020. We know that many look forward to this annual charitable event and have worked hard to raise funds. It’s incredibly disappointing to all of us here who help to organize, volunteer and plan, but these are extenuating, unprecedented circumstances.

All event registration fees will be refunded and the process and timing by which refunds will be issued will be detailed in a separate communication via direct email to everyone impacted. All deposits for accommodations related to the event will be refunded also. We are still working through all of the logistical implications of the decision related to the event and we will provide additional communications as necessary with further details.

In the meantime, please accept our personal apology of this decision (or the timing of our decision) if it causes any inconvenience, but we hope you understand our decision to err on the side of caution. This is a first for Cynthia’s Challenge, and we are trying to do the right thing for participants. All donations raised at this point remain with Cynthia’s Challenge organization to benefit the Bunnell family to reach the goal of raising $65,000 for a handicap van and Evelynn will remain as the beneficiary of donated funds until the goal is met.

Please note, even though there is no longer a Ski-A-Thon, King Pine Ski Area remains at this time operating as currently scheduled. Guests of King Pine and Purity Spring Resort should know that we maintain an ongoing protocol for regular facilities cleaning, requiring employees to wash hands always and it's part of annual training that employees are cognizant of the annual "flu season" and staying home when they may have any symptoms of a contagious illness.
